Nature: Season 32, Episode 1

32 - 1: Saving Otter 501

The Season 32 premiere spotlights the Monterey Bay Aquarium’s Sea Otter Research and Conservation program, which strives to save injured and-or orphaned sea otters, through its work with a female pup. The team of marine biologists must stabilize its health and then get it to feed from a bottle; to prevent it from bonding with them, handlers dress in ponchos and welder hoods. In time, it’s paired with a surrogate mom that teaches it the lessons baby otters must learn, including how to find food.
